Apple Plans to Launch Slimmer iPhone in 2025, Targeting Premium Market

According to a report by the Information, citing three people familiar with the project, this potentially thinner version is expected to be priced higher than Apple’s current top-of-the-line model, the iPhone Pro Max.

The new device, code-named D23, is still in the testing phase, with Apple exploring various designs. 

It is likely to feature the company’s latest-generation processor, the A19. 

The slimmer iPhone is expected to be launched alongside the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.

This anticipated revamp highlights Apple’s need to enhance its most popular product, the iPhone, as it faces fierce competition from Chinese brands like Honor and Huawei and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics. 

According to research firm International Data Corporation, Samsung held the largest smartphone market share at 20.8% in the first quarter of 2024, followed by Apple at 17.3%.

Apple’s decision to develop a slimmer, premium-priced iPhone comes amidst a challenging period for the company. 

In the fiscal second quarter, Apple’s iPhone sales declined 10.5%, generating $45.96 billion in revenue.

The report also suggests that Apple plans to discontinue the iPhone Plus, its less expensive model. 

Instead, the company intends to launch a more affordable iPhone, succeeding the current iPhone SE, in the spring of 2025.

This news follows Apple’s recent unveiling of its latest iPad Pro, which features a new chip designed for artificial intelligence computing. 

The company is racing to catch up with its Big Tech rivals in the emerging technology domain.
