The Assassination Attempt

According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, shots were fired during Trump’s speech, grazing his ear. 

The former president was seen reacting to the gunfire, clutching his ear, and dropping to the ground. Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded Trump and rushed him to safety.

The Shooter

The FBI has identified the assailant as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident. 

Law enforcement officials neutralized the shooter at the scene.

Trump’s Condition and Response

Following the attack, Trump was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. 

He has since been released and appears to be in stable condition. 

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump expressed his gratitude for the prayers and support he received. He called for unity among Americans and emphasized the importance of remaining strong in the face of adversity.

Trump also offered his condolences to the victims, stating, “We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

National Response

President Joe Biden condemned the violence, stating, “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence.” 

The President, who had planned to spend the weekend in Delaware, altered his schedule to return to Washington in light of the events.

Despite the harrowing experience, Trump indicated his intention to continue his political engagements. 

He expressed his eagerness to speak at the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
