The trial, which took place in New York, saw a jury deliberate for fewer than 10 hours over two days before reaching a unanimous decision.

Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan has scheduled the 77-year-old Trump’s sentencing for July 11 at 10 a.m. ET, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is set to be formally confirmed as the GOP’s presidential nominee.

During the trial, both Cohen and Daniels testified that the $130,000 payment was made to prevent Daniels from selling her story of having a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 to media outlets.

Cohen stated that Trump directed him to make the payment to protect his chances of winning the White House in 2016.

Trump, who remains free without bail, faces a maximum possible punishment of four years in prison for each count.

However, Judge Merchan is not bound to sentence him to any prison time, and Trump is sure to appeal the verdict.

In his response to the verdict, Trump maintained his innocence, calling the trial a “disgrace” and claiming it was “rigged” by a “conflicted” and “corrupt” judge.

He also pointed to the upcoming Nov. 5 election, stating that the “real verdict” will be decided by the people.

The Biden campaign was quick to react to the verdict, emphasizing that “no one is above the law” and that the threat Trump poses to democracy has never been greater.

They also noted that despite the conviction, Trump will still be the Republican nominee for president, and the only way to keep him out of the Oval Office is at the ballot box.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr., whose office prosecuted Trump, praised the jurors for their dedication and hard work in reaching the verdict.

The case involved testimony from 22 witnesses and the review of numerous records, checks, and other documents.

This historic conviction comes as Trump faces three other pending criminal cases, two related to his efforts to overturn his loss in the 2020 election and one concerning his retention of classified government records after leaving the White House.

Additionally, he faces significant civil judgments and defamation verdicts.

One thing is clear: the Trump hush money trial has made history and will have far-reaching consequences for American politics.
