Starting in March 2024, travelers driving between Singapore and Malaysia can bid farewell to traditional passport checks. 

Instead, they can breeze through immigration by presenting a self-generated QR code through the MyICA mobile app.

This innovative system applies to the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, two of the world’s busiest international border crossings. 

According to Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the QR code clearance will streamline the process without compromising security.

Who Can Benefit?

The QR code clearance is available to Singapore residents and foreign travelers, making cross-border trips a breeze. 

Even better, you can generate a single QR code for up to 10 people traveling in the same car, saving precious time and effort.

However, there are two exceptions: those entering Singapore for the first time and those using a passport different from that used for previous visits will still need to follow the traditional passport check process.

Faster Clearance, Smoother Journeys

The ICA estimates that the QR code clearance will reduce immigration processing time by a staggering 30%. 

This translates to a time-saving of around 20 seconds for a car with four passengers, while a vehicle with 10 passengers could save up to a minute.

From March 7-10, over 1.8 million travelers crossed at the two checkpoints. 

On March 8 alone, during the March school holidays, a record 495,000 travelers crossed the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints on , highlighting the immense volume of cross-border traffic. 

The QR code clearance promises to alleviate congestion and make these journeys smoother than ever.
