President Joe Biden believes that the economies of China, Japan, and India are struggling due to their fear and dislike of foreigners, known as xenophobia. 

He made these remarks at a recent fundraising event for his 2024 re-election campaign in Washington.

Biden emphasized that the United States’ economic growth is partly due to its welcoming attitude towards immigrants.

President Biden Says Xenophobia is Hurting the Economies of China, Japan, and India

He stated, “One of the reasons why our economy’s growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants.”

In contrast, he pointed out that countries like China, Japan, India, and Russia face economic difficulties because they are not open to accepting immigrants. 

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that these countries will experience slower economic growth in 2024 compared to the previous year.

The United States, on the other hand, is expected to have a slightly higher growth rate of 2.7% in 2024, compared to 2.5% in the previous year. 

Economists believe that this better-than-expected performance is partly due to the contribution of immigrants to the country’s workforce.

As the U.S. presidential election approaches in November, immigration has become a significant concern for many voters. 

President Biden has criticized the anti-immigrant rhetoric used by his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, while also working to strengthen relationships with countries like Japan and India to counter the influence of China and Russia.

The President’s comments highlight the vital role that immigration plays in nations’ economic growth and development and how attitudes toward foreigners can have significant consequences for a country’s prosperity.
