Russian Attacks and Civilian Casualties

According to regional officials, Russian attacks on Saturday killed at least two civilians and injured several others.

In the Kharkiv region, a 49-year-old man was killed by shelling near his home in the village of Slobozhanske, while an 82-year-old woman lost her life, and two men were injured in overnight shelling in Kharkiv city.

A Russian missile attack also set fire to a food factory in Kharkiv’s industrial district, injuring six employees.

In the southern region of Odesa, Governor Oleh Kiper reported that three people were injured in the city due to a missile strike.

These incidents highlight the ongoing threat to civilian lives and the destruction of critical infrastructure caused by the Russian attacks.

Ukraine’s Military Response

President Zelenskiy stated that Russia had used eight missiles of various kinds and nearly 70 guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian communities and frontline positions during the day.

However, Ukraine’s air force successfully downed 13 Shahed drones targeting the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions overnight.

Zelenskiy also reported that Ukraine’s 110th mechanized brigade shot down a Russian Su-25 fighter bomber over the eastern Donetsk region, one of the four areas of Ukraine that Moscow claims to have annexed.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed that Moscow had gained control of 547 square kilometers (211 square miles) of Ukrainian territories this year.

However, the accuracy of this claim remains uncertain.

Impact on Infrastructure and Civilian Life

In addition to the loss of life and injuries, the Russian attacks have caused significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and commercial buildings.

In the industrial Dnipropetrovsk region, shelling injured a 57-year-old woman and damaged infrastructure in Nikopol, located near the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Two more people were wounded in another overnight attack in the region.

As the Russian attacks on Ukraine persist, the toll on civilian lives and infrastructure continues to rise.

The international community will closely watch the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland, hoping for a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
